Older, low yielding vines that are farmed organically and painstakingly hand-harvested, here are an expression of love for an ancient way of life in an ancient land. Winemaking: Hand harvested in the cool of the morning, fermented in open top fermenters with plunging by hand and additional time on skins to ensure colour and flavour extraction. Fermented slowly and then transferred into a combination of larger format oak and stainless steel for maturation. The wine was then blended and bottled with minimal fining and filtration. Tasting Note: Brooding and earthy on the nose this is characteristic Nero d’Avola with lifted aromatics and plush fruit intensity. Plum, blackberry and black cherry richness with hints of milk chocolate, brown spices and a savoury complexity that is so typical of the region. The wine has a plushness of berries finishing long and dry with savoury notes and freshness of acidity. According to folklore, knowing his fate, Morgan told the hangman he was consoled by what would be his magnificent view of the harbour. Region: McLaren Vale Winemaker: Corey Ryan Closure: Cork Alcohol: 13.5% Pack Size: 6 Bottle Pack Summary: Wild Folk - the natural choice in wine - are pure expressions of the variety and the vineyard. Minimal intervention in the winery ensures a joyful glass of just what mother nature intended. Wild yeast fermented, no additions, vegan friendly, preservative free, unfined and unfiltered, nothing but fermented grapes at their finest. Winemaking: A less is more regime in the vineyard and the winery has resulted in a fresher more uncompromising wine stylistically. Handpicked and sorted and then added to open fermenters before undergoing plunging. Consigned to stainless steel after fermentation this wine was bottled shortly after with little additions and was neither fined nor filtered. Vintage 2022: An outstanding year for the Vale, both from a balanced yield level and wine quality. The climatic conditions were cool to warm with no real heat wave impacts. The season was delayed with a cool, dry summer but was rescued with a long Indian style summer well into Autumn. This resulted in slow ripening and optimum flavour development. Sugar, tannin, and flavours all tracked together in development resulting in high quality wines being produced. Tasting Note: McLaren Vale and Sicily share many of the same climatic similarities which is why this Italian variety thrives in the region. This is instantly drinkable with a soft, approachable roundness to the palate. There’s red berry fruit complemented by earthy savoury notes and a gentle grip on the finish.
