Castilla La Mancha: The vast, high and dry plains of Castilla la Mancha comprise over 50% of Spain’s vineyards. The ancient soils and high altitude ensures the richly flavoured fruit maintains structure and tannin. Vineyards planted on the slopes of mountain ranges in the north and north east add a degree of elegance to the wines.

Winemaking: Ripe and intensely flavoured Tempranillo was given a long and cool maceration in vats before maturation in stainless steel. Shiraz added mid palate intensity and overall fruit weight. Finally, 10% of the blend was Tempranillo sourced from the San Vincente region of Rioja and matured in aged oak barrels for complexity and structure.

Tasting Note: Deep red in colour with a ripe, expressive nose of berries, plums and smoked spice. The palate is rich and opulently fruited, packed with dark berried Shiraz fruit matched by structured, savoury Tempranillo and framed by silky tannins. Impressively complex and well balanced, this wine will gain character and complexity in the cellar for up to five years. Perfect with chargrilled chorizo and olives.

Little Giant Tempranillo (6pk)

Summary: The southern hairy-nose wombat is smaller than other wombats but is stocky, robust and the proud state emblem of South Australia. Like the might of the little wombat, Little Giant is crafted from premium regional South Australian fruit from established vineyards that deliver character and interest well above their size and weight.

Hand-crafted and made with minimal additions and preservatives, these are wines made of the vineyard. The grapes are picked at optimal ripeness, minimally handled in the winery and fruit vibrancy is not hidden by non-essential artifact. Seeking first and foremost fruit expression, drinkability and to be a great accompaniment to food. Don’t let the size fool you, these are wines you’ll want to drink.

Winemaking: All the fruit was picked during the early morning to retain colour and flavour  retention and then crushed and fermented for a period of up to 10 days. Following primary fermentation the wine was pressed off into a small parcel of new but mostly into older oak for malolactic fermentation and maturation where it was held for a period of 10 months prior to blending and bottling.

2022 Vintage: 2022 will probably be remembered as wet in most parts of Australia. However, in inland vineyards the rain did not hinder, rather it helped vines stay healthy and created favourable conditions for a modest and favourable crop across much of the country. Overall, quality was up but yields were down.

Tasting Note: A fantastically flavoursome Tempranillo from South Australia showing both freshness and varietal typicity. Attractive red berry aromas with hints of cherry and spice before a soft palate with bright acidity and a long finish. Perfect with barbecued lamb burgers.
